Introduction

HERE in our Projects section you will find information about some of the good works done since the formation of Kiranmayi Socio Educational Society as a voluntary organization in 1999, focused on the Khammam and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Early programmes in the Khammam district [see Project Archive Gallery] concentrated on empowering women’s groups and the formation and strengthening of self-help groups and banking assistance to help families to sustain their livelihoods.

Then followed the  implementation of a post-tsunami health and sanitation programme in Machilipatnam and Nagayalanka mandals covering 16 villages with the backing and support of Tdh, from Switzerland.  House repairs were also carried out for victims of the tsunami, while a KISES Health Centre was constructed in Pedapatnam village to serve a population nearing 30,000 from 30 villages. Funding is now being sought for a mobile health centre to complement this much-needed facility.

For the past two years, KISES has been concentrating its efforts on a humanisation programme for children and families living and working on the Vijayawada city dump.

A temporary school and care centre has been replaced by a more flexible approach to supporting these marginalised, and often shunned, people – a mobile school, combined with daily nutritious meals, fresh drinking water and regular health checks is now in place, thanks largely to support from volunteer fundraisers in the UK.

However, more funding is urgently needed to cover running costs, including the hire of a teacher, cook and driver. We are determined to find financial backers who will not only ensure that this campaign can run and run, but expand into the slum areas of Vijayawada city.

Please join our campaign to bring hope for the future for these marginalised children by donating at the top of the Home page. Thank you.
